Best Baby-Proofing Items!

These are my top baby-proofing items to ensure your baby is safe when he/she starts to explore their little world. See below to learn more.

1) Self-Closing Outlet Covers

We went through several types of outlet covers before settling on these. However, we had a baby who could easily take out the other standard covers, so we had to opt for this to be extra secure. I’ll be honest, these are sort of a pain to install, but they are 1,000% worth it!

2) Oven Door Lock

This oven lock is a must-have if your oven is located at waist level (like ours is). Our toddler spent much time trying to yank this lock/button off, but to no avail! It stays put and is easy to lock and unlock the oven.

3) Stove Knob Covers

I don’t know why toddlers are obsessed with all the dangerous things, but they are. Ours loved trying to fidding with the knobs of our stove, which was a big no-no. Thankfully, these knob covers have saved the day!

4)Accordion (Bi-Fold) Door Lock

Our hot water heater, heater, and AC equipment is all behind two bi-fold closets in our living room (the doors that open and close like an accordion). We had no idea how to secure those doors because our toddler loved to go in there and hide (hugely dangerous!) Thankfully, he cannot get into these closets due to these amazing locks.

5) Door Knob Cover

I’ve heard horror stories of little children opening up the front door and wandering outside. As soon as our little guy started to walk, we made sure to stick these covers on the doors of both of our doors (we have two that lead to the outside) as well as the bathroom, and our bedroom (for privacy). Easy to install, easy to open the door as an adult with these on. Cannot talk these up enough!

6) Baby Gate

The baby gate you select will depend on the type of stairs situation you have. We have three baby gates in our house: one at the top of the stairs, one at the bottom, and one in between the short space that connects our kitchen and laundry room. This baby gate is perfect if you have a staircase situ that resembles the picture above. Super safe, easy to open and close, and when installed correctly, can withstand the weight of an unruly toddler who pushes and bounces against it!

7) Baby Proofing Edge and Corner Guards

We purchased these corner protectors in both clear and brown, and I’m not sure if it’s just our guys, but they were very attracted to the clear kind, not so much the brown version (it also comes in black). Very handy to have when your wee little one starts to navigate the world and doesn’t know what a sharp corner is.

8) Cabinet Locks

The final item I suggest is these cabinet locks. I’ve tried several and I like these because 1) They are somewhat easy to take on and off (for adults). 2) They keep little ones out. 3) I am not a fan of the locks that come with mounting tape that peels off paint, is challenging to readjust. We use these on all of our children-level kitchen cabinets, and also for our bathroom cabinets as well. Easy-peasy!
