I tested positive for COVID-19 a few weeks ago after avoiding it all this time. Hubby remains asymptomatic, but both of our boys suffered from coughs and a lot of boogers. My symptoms were a very painful sore throat, then cough, lots of mucus, night sweats, and fatigue.
While I’m glad I’ve got antibodies and we can be out and about with our boys (though I’m not sure how long we are protected, that remains unclear to me) getting sick did a number on my mental health and momentum toward health in general. Now that I’m pretty much recovered (a residual cough and mild congestion) I’m back to focusing on how I’d like to spend the month of June in terms of my health/fitness/ goals.
I have an 8-week couch to 5K plan hanging on my fridge, but I’m not ready for that. I do know that while I do want to lose weight, I follow the Health At Every Size (HAES) movement, which seeks to destigmatize obesity and de-emphasize weight loss as a health goal. So I mention weight loss while focusing on a more holistic, gentle approach to my body.
Yoga has been a practice I’ve done on and off for many years. I did a lot of prenatal yoga during both pregnancies, but it has been several years since I’ve done yoga at all. Yoga has always been incredibly grounding and rejuvenating for me, and also great for my mental health. I am not ready to commit to a studio or class, so I found this 30-day yoga challenge that is free for Amazon Prime members.
I was a bit reluctant with the “weight loss” part of the title, but the reviews are great, and in line with where I want to be at the end of these 30 days: empowered, strong, and mentally fit.
Day 1 was today, and the instructor did not talk about weight loss in an icky way at all, and I appreciate how it has transformed my mood and my day for the better! I will keep you all apprised on how I’m doing and definitely check out the yoga challenge if you are looking to prioritize your health!
